How ISA allowances work in 2026/27
For the 2026/27 tax year you can pay in up to £20,000 across all your ISAs combined. You can split this between a Stocks & Shares ISA, Cash ISA, Innovative Finance ISA and Lifetime ISA in any combination — as long as the total stays within £20,000.
The Lifetime ISA sub-limit: you can only pay a maximum of £4,000 into a LISA each tax year, and that £4,000 counts towards your overall £20,000 allowance. The government then adds a 25% bonus (up to £1,000 a year). This tracker caps LISA input at £4,000 and flags it if you go over.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Lifetime ISA come out of my £20,000 allowance?
Yes. LISA contributions (up to £4,000) count towards your overall £20,000 ISA allowance — they are not on top of it.
What happens if I exceed my allowance?
Paying in more than £20,000 (or more than £4,000 into a LISA) can lead to the excess being refunded and, in some cases, tax consequences. This tracker warns you before that happens.
